During the holiday season, the Wade’s World Foundation grants three wishes to youth and/or families in need throughout the South Florida community as part of the “3 Under the Tree” series of events. The events began on Saturday, December 19th at Boomers in Dania Beach. Dwyane Wade hosted more than 300 kids from various youth and church organizations in the Miami Dade and Broward communities for an afternoon of fun, food and games. Dwyane engaged in friendly competitions with the kids, playing basketball, laser tag, and bowling. Fun was had by all, and it was a memorable experience.
This year the “3 Under the Tree” series of events also included a contest held on the Wade’s World Foundation website. The contest allowed the opportunity for kids to receive a grand prize of $10,000, which would go towards their after school program. Organizations from all over Miami Dade county emailed WWF and explained why their organization’s after school program deserved to be chosen. The winners of the contest were CMB Visions Unlimited, Cool Kids Learn and Teen Upward Bound. On Sunday, December 20th, Wade hosted these 100 kids from the three different organizations, at the Miami Heat game. He also presented their $10,000 grand prize checks to them while in attendance.
On Monday, December 21st, dozens of kids were all bundled up on a chilly morning, in anticipation of Dwyane Wade’s outdoor basketball court donation to the Community Partnership for Homeless, in downtown Miami. A ribbon cutting ceremony set the release of the new court. After the ceremony Dwyane also personally coached the youth in a short clinic, informally sharing his moves and providing valuable game time lessons to those gathered.
In line of the events Dwyane does during the holiday season, he also partnered with several other Heat players, including Jermaine O’Neal, Udonis Haslem, and Mario Chalmers, to help distribute toys to needy children around the South Florida region. Including one special family which Dwyane and his sister Tragil visited at their home, for a surprise Christmas.
